Where to Stay in Umbria | |
| A personal selection of apartments, B&B, hotels, private villas and agriturismi in Umbria from simple, family run accommodation or self catering to luxurious country houses | |
For anyone looking to discover the real Italy, long lazy summer days, bright blues skies, hillsides covered with olive groves, vineyards, lunches that last for ever with friends and family, tiny medieval hilltop villages, Roman ruins, Etruscan tombs and the generous, warm-hearted and welcoming nature of the Italians, look no further than Umbria. The lesser known sister of Tuscany, Umbria is in central italy and is a region of immense charm and beauty. A mystical and fascinating part of Italy, its roots are ancient, colouring modern day life with its history and traditions. Perfect to go exploring, the roads are fairly quiet and many beautiful sights are off the beaten track. Places to visit include Assisi, Perugia, Spello, Spoleto, Montefalco, Montone, Gubbio, Todi, Orvieto and Lake Trasimeno amongst others. Fantastic works of art by Pinturicchio, Perugino, Signorelli and Piero della Francesco adorn many churches, palaces and museums. Perugia is home to the international festival Umbria Jazz, and Eurochocolate, with both events bringing crowds from all over the world to its tiny medieval streets. The Vale of Umbria is a great winegrowing region with Umbrian wines rivalling the Tuscan reds!
